Up-skill, Cross-skill, Build proficiency – PropEL towards your goal

Ongoing professional development has always been a core purpose of the REIV.

The REIV Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program provides a framework to ensure that Members continually invest time and effort into upskilling themselves and their teams.

To build and maintain the REIV Difference, it is important that Members demonstrate that they are a cut above the rest through their dedication to their ongoing development. The REIV CPD program covers a wide range of activities that all contribute to building a better skilled, more knowledgeable professional real estate sector. The program is designed to be simple, accessible, and flexible.

What is Continuing Professional Development (CPD)?

Activities that support professional development include those that: extend your real estate related skills, knowledge and understanding; support the operation of compliant and responsible real estate business and demonstrate your contribution to the overall development of the real estate sector.

Relevant activities will be assigned an REIV CPD hours value. This may include some compulsory training each year.

The REIV Board has set a minimum requirement of 10 CPD hours in each CPD year, 1 April – 31 March. Of the minimum 10 CPD hour requirement, 5 CPD hours may be accumulated through relevant activities undertaken outside the REIV.

A well informed, skilled and responsible Membership supports consumer confidence, improves public perception, demonstrates the REIV Difference, and gives consumers even more reason always to Choose an REIV Member.

What has changed from CPD points to CPD hours? We are simplifying the CPD process, by using hours rather than points, members should be able to more easily track their CPD targets, and have a better understanding of how many hours an activity is worth. We have also changed the yearly requirment from 12 CPD points, to 10 CPD hours, of which half can now be completed by professional activities outside of the REIV.

These changes are designed to help our members consistently achieve their CPD targets.

Who needs to comply? CPD requirements must be met by all REIV Licensed and Representative Members. Honorary Life Members, who are also Licensed Members, are also achieve the required CPD hours.

What attracts CPD hours? Hours can be attained through a wide variety of initiatives. This includes activities undertaken with the REIV as well as those undertaken externally. Any activity or service that extends your real estate related skills, knowledge and understanding, or supports your business compliance, will be eligible for REIV CPD hours. Refer to the REIV CPD Hours Table for an overview of CPD approved activity.

How many CPD hours do I need? A minimum of 10 REIV CPD hours must be achieved in a CPD year. This must include the prescribed REIV Ethics Module for the year. At least 5 hours must be from REIV activities.

What is the CPD Year? 1 April - 31 March

How do I record my CPD activity? hours allocated to REIV events, training and activity will be automatically allocated to the Individual Member. Any eligible external activity must be reported to the REIV in order to be reflected in your REIV CPD record.

How do I report activity outside the REIV? Any activity that members undertake outside the REIV can be considered for CPD hours by lodging via the member portal. Simply login to your member account via https://members.reiv.com.au/ and record your CPD activity under the Manage Your CPD tile. Please submit evidence of the completed activity. Allocation of hours will be at the discretion of the REIV. No fees apply. Examples include formal training such as a business qualification training, events provided by AICD, API, AVI, RICS, Victorian Chamber of Commerce and training/event/competitions by or through your employer/franchise group.

I am a Business Leader with years of experience and short on time, how do I achieve the required hours? CPD hours will be awarded to leaders of Member businesses who ensure compliance through use of REIV products and services and support their team’s ongoing professional development. Refer to the CPD Hours Table for eligible activities.

What happens if I have a shortfall at the end of the year? If a Member fails to accumulate the requisite number of CPD hours in the CPD year, they will be required to make up the shortfall in the following CPD year (in addition to the 10 CPD hours of the new CPD year). Should the Member not achieve the required number of hours in the second year, this could result in action by the Board.
