Starting a career in real estate To work in the real estate industry, you must first complete the Agent’s Representative Course. As an Agent’s Representative you can work for a Licensed Real Estate Agent and undertake a broad range of duties and responsibilities such as sales, property management, business broking and buyer’s advocacy. Students can choose to study the superseded 3 Unit Course (Available until May 2021) (Understand the 2020 education requirement changes) or the new Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice.
Becoming a Licensed Estate Agent Often known as the “Licence Course”, this is the minimum education qualification required to obtain your Estate Agent's licence. The full licence qualification offers a range of opportunities to develop your career prospects. As a licensed estate agent, you can act on behalf of a vendor, landlord, purchaser or tenant in Victoria to sell, lease or manage real estate or business. The minimum educational qualifications required to apply for an Estate Agent’s Licence are a CPP41419 Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice and CPP51119 Diploma of Property (Agency Management). The Superseded Agent's Representative Course comprises of the three Units CPPDSM4007A, CPPDSM4008A, CPPDSM4080A. Enrolments will be open till 30 May 2021, however, you must complete the course by 30 September 2021 and be registered with the Business Licensing Authority (BLA) within 5 years from the date of the Statement of Attainment.
The new entry-level education required to work in real estate is CPP41419 Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice. This course can also be completed through a workplace traineeship. Enrolments are now open.

Traineeships are an effective and efficient way to complete your licence course while continuing to build practical skills in the workplace. A traineeship may be offered to an individual who is employed as a new worker (hired within 3 months) on a full or part-time (minimum 13 hours per week) basis in the real estate industry.
Government Funding for Traineeships
To assist with the recovery from the impact of COVID-19, the Australian Government is providing support to all employers who engage a new Australian Trainee. Businesses have an opportunity to attract new staff while potentially reducing their salary costs. Any business that engages an Australian Trainee on or after 5th October 2020 may be eligible for a subsidy of up to 50% of gross wages, up to 30 September 2021.
Limited number of places are on offer. It is important that employers discuss this with their staff and apply as soon as possible.
