REIV Board Appoints Jacob Caine and Adrian Butera to Lead the Institute Through 2026

MEDIA RELEASE

The Real Estate Institute of Victoria (REIV) Board of Directors has appointed respected industry leader Jacob Caine as President and appointed Adrian Butera as Vice President for 2026.

Mr Caine previously served as REIV President from 2023 to 2025, before stepping into the role of Interim CEO during a leadership transition in mid-2025.

Mr Butera brings extensive industry and governance experience to the role. A four-time recipient of the REIV Senior Auctioneer Award, he previously served on the REIV Board from 2011 to 2014, including as Senior Vice President, and was re-elected to the Board in October 2023.

The appointments were confirmed following a vote by the board and will ensure leadership stability and strategic continuity as the Institute navigates a period of significant industry change. With 2026 being a state election year, this presents a critical opportunity to strengthen advocacy efforts and help shape policy outcomes for the real estate sector.

Mr Caine said it was a privilege to continue leading the Institute during a pivotal time for the sector. “It’s an honour to be reappointed as REIV President as we enter an important year for Victoria’s real estate industry,” Mr Caine said.

I also want to sincerely thank Sam Hatzistamatis for stepping in to serve as President during a period of transition. Sam’s leadership, professionalism and commitment to the Institute provided stability and continuity at a critical time, and his contribution has been greatly valued by the Board and members.”

Mr Butera said he looked forward to supporting the Institute’s strategic priorities.

“I’m pleased to step into the Vice President role and support the REIV’s focus on professionalism, strong governance and advocacy for our members during a period of ongoing reform,” Mr Butera said.

REIV CEO Toby Balazs welcomed the appointments.

“Jacob’s reappointment as President, alongside Adrian’s appointment as Vice President, ensures the REIV enters this period with experienced leadership and a clear focus on governance, strategy and long-term outcomes for the industry,” Mr Balazs said.

Mr Caine will also continue in his role as President of the Real Estate Institute of Australia (REIA), advancing the interests of the Victorian and national property sectors.
