Membership Eligibility

Understand your eligibility for REIV membership

Over 80 per cent of real estate agencies in Victoria have chosen to be members of the REIV. That is a testimony to the importance and significance of an REIV membership and it also means that we are uniquely placed to share resources, data and expertise.

The REIV offers three major ways to get involved and be part of the Difference in real estate, Office Membership, Individual Membership and Affiliate of the Institute.

Eligibility is governed by the REIV Constitution and By-Laws. Please check your eligibility and apply for appropriate membership category.

Individual Membership

Licensed Estate Agents, Agent’s Representatives, Owners Corporation Managers and Valuers can apply for an Individual Membership.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Estate Agents and Agents Representatives: Must be registered with the Business Licensing Authority (BLA). Membership category of Licensed Member or Agents Representative Member will be applied accordingly.

  • Owners Corporation Managers: Must be employed as an Owners Corporation Manager by a business registered by the Business Licensing Authority as an Owners Corporation Manager.
    (An individual will be considered a Licensed Member if they have no less than 3 years’ experience in owners corporation management at the date of application; and hold a Certificate IV or higher qualification in a real estate, property or legal discipline determined as relevant by the Board, or have completed the REIV Advanced Owners Corporation Manager training.
    An individual with less than 3 years’ experience will be considered an Agents Representative Member.)

  • Valuers: Must be a Property Valuer either employed as such or part of the business leadership of a valuation business, and hold a qualification in Property and Valuation at no less than undergraduate level, as approved by the Board.
    An individual will be considered a Licensed Member if they meet this criteria.

Individuals who work in the real estate sector but are not eligible for individual membership may apply to be an Affiliate of the Institute.

Office Membership

The following real estate businesses may apply for Office Membership under the REIV Constitution and By-Laws.

  1. Businesses holding an Estate Agency License

The applicant business holds a current Estate Agents licence and is registered with the Business Licensing Authority of Victoria. The business can be a:

  • Franchise office

  • Branch office

  • Independent agency

  • Sole trader

Individuals in the business leadership team and are Licensed Agents or Agents Representatives must also hold an individual membership. This includes:

  • Directors

  • Officers

  • Officer in Effective Control

  • Chief Executive Officer

  • Partners

  • Sole trader

2. Valuation or Owners Corporation Manager Businesses that DO NOT hold an Estate Agency License

  • A business registered with the Business Licensing Authority as an Owners Corporation Manager

  • A business providing Property Valuation services

Individuals in the business leadership team who are eligible for Licensed Membership, must be Licensed Members, including:

  • Directors

  • Officers

  • Officer in Effective Control

  • Chief Executive Officer

  • Partners

  • Sole Trader

All other businesses should refer to the Affiliate of the Institute.

Affiliate of the Institute

Businesses or individuals who work in the real estate sector but are not eligible for office or individual membership may apply to be an Affiliate of the Institute.

Corporate offices of franchise groups and service providers to the sector will find this offer valuable.
The applicant can be an individual or business.

Fees

REIV membership renewal date is 1 July. Applicants will be charged a pro-rata amount for the current financial year on approval of your application.

Office membership fee is determined by number of employees in the business. Details below.
