McCrae is located 60 km south of the CBD. Located on the Mornington Peninsula McCrae is primarily residential in nature but incorporates some parts of the Arthurs Seat State Park. The suburb has a high proportion (12%) of it's labour force employed in the construction sector. The Nepean Highway and Mornington Peninsula Freeway traverse the suburb. The suburb also features the Foreshore Reserve and the Eastern Lighthouse. Like a number of bayside areas the population is heavily concentrated in the older age groups.
