Leadership journey, the Gender Pay Gap re Superannuation and women’s pathway to financial empowerment

Claire is a professional director with extensive executive experience with listed corporates, not for profit organisations and government enterprises. She is the Chair and Independent Director of REI Superannuation, the industry superannuation fund for the real estate industry. In addition, Claire is Chair of GMHBA and was recently appointed as Chancellor of Deakin University commencing in January 2026.

Claire has held positions as Board Chair, director, and committee member for a range of private and public organisations including Ryman Healthcare Limited, Vital Healthcare Property Trust, Helen Macpherson Smith Trust, RT Health Fund, the Victorian State Emergency Service, Country Fire Authority, Ambulance Victoria, and Barwon Health.

Claire will talk about her Board journey as well as the Gender Pay Gap in relation to superannuation and what women can do about it.

Women Property Initiatives

WPI is a registered charity creating new beginnings for women and children through long-term, affordable housing. Founded in 1996 by a group of determined women, WPI has grown from its first 11 homes to more than 130 owned properties and a further 166 under management, providing secure housing to over 520 women and children. With demand continuing to rise, WPI has set an ambitious goal to deliver 100 new homes for women and children in need.

Leading this vital work is Roberta Buchanan, CEO of WPI and a committed advocate for affordable housing and gender equality. With more than 30 years of experience across Australia, the UK and Ireland, Roberta has dedicated her career to strengthening community housing and improving outcomes for women. She holds qualifications in Housing Studies and an MBA from Melbourne Business School.

To support WPI’s mission, the REIV will host a special charity auction at the close of the conference. All proceeds will go directly to WPI, helping accelerate the delivery of safe and secure homes for women and children across Victoria.
