Overview

Designed to be informative rather than technical, the session provides a structured overview of the VCAT process, breaking down important concepts into practical, accessible guidance that can be applied immediately in day-to-day property management practice.

  • When to apply to VCAT and when alternative avenues may be appropriate 
  • Service requirements and common procedural pitfalls 
  • Drafting effective summaries of proof and gathering relevant evidence 
  • Communication with renters and the Tribunal prior to the hearing 
  • Consent orders, settlement discussions and strategic considerations 
  • How to presenting your case on the day and guiding the Member through the issues 
  • Post-hearing considerations, including warrants of possession and handling review applications

Andrew is a former lawyer and experienced property management leader with over a decade in the industry. Andrew brings a unique combination of legal training and operational expertise, focusing strongly on advocacy and the practical application of the Residential Tenancies Act.

Robert Gallo is a practising barrister with a broad civil and commercial practice, regularly appearing in courts and tribunals across multiple jurisdictions. With extensive experience in litigation, dispute resolution and advocacy, Robert provides valuable insight into Tribunal procedure, strategy and effective case presentation.

Together, Andrew and Robert combine frontline property management experience with high-level legal expertise, delivering practical guidance to help property professionals approach VCAT matters with greater confidence and clarity.
