Records fall in spring 2015

It’s been a remarkable spring selling season, especially in Melbourne where multiple auction records fell over auction-signs.jpgthe three month period. 


The final week of spring saw a record number of homes go under the hammer in a single day, weekend and week. On Saturday 28 November, 1,648 homes went to auction – 22 more than the previous record for a single day. 


It was also a record auction week with 1,749 homes selling in the final week of November, up 62 auctions on the previous record which was set in October last year. 


With almost 5,700 auctions held, November 2015 is the biggest auction month on record – significantly higher than the previous record of 5,410 auctions, set in November 2014.


New REIV data shows spring auction numbers in metropolitan Melbourne were up 14 per cent on the same period last year. Close to 13,750 auctions were held in the three months of spring, up from just over 12,000 in 2014. Of the homes that went to auction, almost 9,750 sold – an increase of 12 per cent.

 

Brighton and South Yarra were some of the city’s best performing spring suburbs for the number of auctions held as well as the number of homes sold by auction.


In Brighton, 154 homes were auctioned with 116 selling, while 167 homes were auctioned in South Yarra with 113 selling under the hammer. 


Meanwhile, Balaclava featured in the top clearance rate suburbs over the three month period, with a clearance rate of 88 per cent.
