Information shared at these events is developed with input from government agencies, member input and feedback. It encapsulates what we consider best practice at the time. 

Hosted by REIV CEO, Gil King, each event presents three key sessions tailored to property managers, sales agents, Directors and OIEC’s, see below. Plus, flexible registration options and the opportunity to network with your peers, REIV representatives and explore member only specials with REIV Partners on display.

Successful professionals in real estate are people who have a good understanding of legislation and put in place processes to ensure compliance with the law.


Join us for an intensive session on some aspects of legislation that are a common cause for questions from members.
In this session we will provide a refresher on the legislation and share tips to help you meet your compliance obligations efficiently. These learnings will assist in identifying, managing and mitigating risk in you real estate practice.


Key matters to be covered include:
-  Material Fact Guidelines (Sale of Land Amendment Act 2019),
-  The types of Sales Authorities, when to use them and how to complete with accuracy, and
- Section 55 and 55A and how it may impact you (Estate Agents Act 1980)

*Mornington, Bendigo and Geelong Connect events will also include a brief overview on commercial leases with a follow up webinar link with further details to be sent to registrants following the session.

 
12 noon Your Institute – A Member Open Forum
Meet with REIV President and CEO in a members open forum to discuss:
- REIV’s strategic direction,
- How the Institute may assist you and your agency
- The future of our industry and emerging trends, and
- Local issues that may affect your business or the general market.

This is your opportunity to raise key objectives, exchange ideas, provide feedback and future opportunities for the Institute.

1.15pm Residential Tenancies Act Amendments – An Overview
As members are aware, REIV has been working directly with Government on the RTA Amendments from the initial design stages through to development of the Regulations.


However, while successful in delaying the implementation date of the Residential Tenancies Amendment Act 2018 due to COVID-19, the amendments are now to be introduced by 29 March 2021.
 
Although REIV may not support all the amendments that are now in the Act, we are now focused on ensuring that the Victorian real estate sector is well prepared to effectively implement the Regulations as they come into effect.
 
Leah Calnan, REIV President and Director of Metro Property Management will provide an overview on:
- The new regulations
- What has been included and what’s changed
- The implications for the industry
- Compliance requirements of the new Act including gas appliances, 
  electrical safety checks and smoke alarms, and
- Preparing your clients and your team for the upcoming changes.

Leah Calnan
REIV President and Director of Metro Property Management

Leah’s experience encompasses more than 20 years in the property industry, commencing as an Assistant Property Manager. Leah is currently proprietor and Director of Metro Property Management & Metro Property Sales and was elected to the REIV Board of Directors in 2014.




Gil King
Chief Executive Officer, REIV

Gil King joined the REIV as CEO in early 2017. Gil brings a wealth of experience to the role, both within membership organisations and within policy and regulatory environments. He has had over 20 years’ involvement in the building industry, including as Director Regulatory Compliance at the Victorian Building Commission (now Victorian Building Authority).


 


Phil Peros - Professional Development Officer, REIV

Phil Peros is a licensed real estate agent with over 15 years-experience within the industry, including 10 as an Auctioneer. After joining REIV in early 2019, Phil Peros has recently become the Institute’s Professional Development Officer. Using his experience from within the industry, Phil assists members with VicForms, provides advice on a wide range of industry related matters and supports the development of young professionals.
